Syd Cotton, a retired Grenoside Sword Dancer, passed away on Saturday August 13th at the age of 94.

Syd first joined the team when we had a Rover Scout side in 1939. He joined the team proper in 1947, and apart from a short break he was a full member of the team until he retired in 1973.

Syd was well-loved by the team and still kept links with the current side. He attended many of our Cecil Sharp tribute events in 2010, including the centenary of Cecil Sharp's visit to notate the dance at the barn on Wheel Lane, where he posed for this photo with Cecil Sharp (played by team member Joe Dunn).

The funeral takes place on Tuesday August 30th at Grenoside Methodist Chapel at 11am, with the commital at 11:45 at Grenoside Cematorium.
